I was given an estimate of $854.00, by the a company representative named Dave, for replacing the hot and cold valve assemblies on the shower side plus hardware that supposedly regulates the temperature, located on the back side of the shower wall. Estimate included replacing 2 nipples connectors and cutting out a portion of the dry wall on the back side to gain access to plumbing fixtures that needed to be replaced. I gave Dave a requested down payment of $254 to do the work on the next day. I was told the service person would arrive at 8:00 AM.
The service person arrived but was 3 hrs. late. After reviewing the problem, he informed me that there was no need to tear out a portion of the dry wall on the backside of the shower, and that only the two valve assemblies needed to be replaced. The service person did not come with the needed parts and left to purchase the hardware at Home Depot. A trip to the local Home Depot to purchase an item could be easily accomplished with in 30 min. He was gone almost an hour.
The actual work only took approximately 1 ½ hours and the hardware cost from Home Depot was $40. The worker who did the work only had to purchase the kit and install it. When the job was finished, I contacted the Orange Plumbing Service office and explained that the work done was not as described in their estimate and questioned the validity of the estimate. Their response was that the charge included costs of doing business; e.g., workmen comp, etc. and if I didn’t pay the balance of $600 I would have a lien put on my property.
So, I question the integrity and professionalism of the Orange Plumbing Service and will never do business with them again.
